Description: Glider means a heavier-than-air aircraft that is supported in flight by the dynamic reaction of the air against its lifting surfaces, and whose free flight does not depend principally on an engine. [1][3]


Certification and Eligibility


The following are the requirements for eligibility for a private pilot certificate with a Glider rating:

  • Must be 16 years or older.
  • Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English.
  • Complete training and flight time in accordance with part 61 of Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations.[2]
  • Pass a knowledge test and a practical test.
  • Be certified as student pilot, sport pilot, or recreational pilot.
